Climate Change Adaptation and Biodiversity: Policy Tool Options to Motivate Action
Recent studies have shown that regardless of the mitigation action taken for climate change mitigation, we are still going to feel the effects of changes in temperature and precipitation. Biodiversity will be significantly affected by these changes. This study seeks to understand the unique characteristics of this policy issue and determine which tools can be most effectively used to facilitate public action to protect natural values. This study focuses on some of the key actions being undertaken in select jurisdictions around the world and provides recommendations for government and non-government organizations into how this issue must be approached differently than other issues. This report concludes that in order to be effective at addressing this issue, government must learn to interact differently with the public and increase the transparency and participatory nature of its public policy development process.
